Lucky Gobindram is the General Manager at CXR.Agency (based in Brooklyn, New York), listed on 50Pros as a top 50 firm in Software Development, AI, and AR/VR.

In this Q&A, Lucky shares his in-depth perspective, unique background, robust experiences, and insightful tips.

How did you get into your industry?

Growing up, I was always surrounded by innovation and creativity thanks to my father, who was an inventor. He designed and built novel products, which instilled in me a deep fascination with technology and its potential to change lives. However, I found myself working in a different industry at the outset of my career, a journey that was instrumental in shaping my approach to problem-solving and strategic thinking.

The pivotal moment came when I recognized the mobile app revolution sweeping across the digital world. I observed a unique dichotomy – on one hand, there was this exponential growth and demand for mobile applications, and on the other, there was a significant gap in enterprises' ability to design, build, and support these applications. I saw this as an opportunity to bring my passion for emerging technology and my experience in strategic problem-solving together.

I delved into the creative technology space, determined to bridge this gap. By combining effective design with the latest technologies, I aimed to cater to the burgeoning demand and simultaneously empower enterprises to harness the potential of mobile apps. My journey has since evolved, moving beyond just mobile apps to embracing various facets of digital transformation such as web, XR, AI, and blockchain technologies.

Being in this dynamic industry allows me to continually learn, adapt, and innovate. It's incredibly rewarding to see how our work at CXR.Agency not only meets the immediate needs of our clients but also shapes their future digital strategies. And while the technology landscape keeps evolving, my core mission remains the same - to transform brands with revolutionary digital experiences.

What inspired you to start your agency?

Starting CXR.Agency was motivated by a fusion of problem-solving, innovation, and the prospect of digital transformation. Throughout my career, I had seen and worked with companies that struggled to keep pace with the fast-evolving technology landscape. Many had difficulties grasping how to leverage emerging technologies to meet their business needs and enhance their customer experiences.

We saw an opportunity there, a gap that we felt was not being adequately addressed. It was a chance to provide solutions that others found challenging and to guide businesses through the digital terrain. In essence, the inspiration to start CXR.Agency was rooted in our desire to be that bridge connecting brands with the future of digital experiences.

My mission, and by extension the mission of CXR.Agency, is to transform brands by harnessing the power of emerging technologies. We strive to create groundbreaking experiences through web, mobile, XR, AI, and blockchain technologies. It's about much more than just problem-solving—it's about ushering in a new era of digital possibilities, and witnessing how these transformative experiences positively impact businesses, drive growth, and reshape industries.

Every day, we're motivated by the innovative spirit and the prospect of what's on the horizon, and I'm proud to say that it's this inspiration that fuels our relentless drive to continue exploring and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the digital space."

How do you manage work-life balance as an agency owner or executive?

Balancing work and personal life as an agency owner is definitely a challenge, but it's one I've learned to navigate with carefully crafted habits and routines. My day starts early at 6AM, providing me a quiet moment to engage with the world through reading news and articles. This is my dedicated time for personal growth and staying updated with the latest in technology and digital transformation.

Family plays a pivotal role in my life. Regular walks on the beach with my wife and kids serve as not only a physical exercise but also as a time for us to bond and reflect together. I also make it a point to be present for my kids' milestones or school events. These moments remind me of what I'm working hard for and ground me amidst the pressures and fast-paced nature of my professional life.

As an executive, I understand the importance of focused, uninterrupted work. I block off a specific time every day solely for this purpose. This undisturbed period allows me to effectively strategize, solve problems, and drive the mission of CXR.Agency forward.

I believe a healthy work-life balance is a continuous journey of reassessing priorities and making necessary adjustments. It's a delicate dance that requires discipline, commitment, and most importantly, understanding and respecting one's own limits. By incorporating these habits into my daily routine, I've managed to strike a balance that works for me, and it's this balance that fuels both my professional success and personal happiness.

What is the best piece of advice you've received in your career that pertains to your work, and how has it influenced your decisions?

The best piece of advice I've ever received in my career is to 'Fail Fast.' While it may sound counterintuitive, this principle has profoundly shaped the way I approach innovation, problem-solving, and decision-making in the ever-changing technology industry.

In our line of work, especially where emerging technologies and disruptive solutions are involved, experimentation is vital. And with experimentation comes the risk of failure. But instead of shying away from it, 'Failing Fast' taught me to embrace failure as a stepping stone, a learning opportunity.

It's about taking calculated risks, putting new ideas to test quickly, and learning rapidly from the mistakes. If an idea or a project is not working, it's better to recognize it early and pivot or adjust the strategy accordingly. This approach has allowed CXR.Agency to stay agile, innovate with confidence, and continually evolve without being hindered by the fear of failure.

By adopting the 'Fail Fast' mindset, we've been able to explore new frontiers, iterate more efficiently, and find success in areas that others might find too risky or challenging. It's more than just a piece of advice; it's a philosophy that resonates with our mission to transform brands with revolutionary digital experiences, and it continues to influence how we operate and lead in our industry.

What activities or hobbies outside of work do you enjoy that help you recharge and stay creative?

Engaging in a variety of activities outside of work helps me maintain a holistic perspective and boosts my creativity. One of my favorite pastimes is taking long walks along the beach. This is not only a great way to stay physically active, but it also provides a tranquil space for reflection and clarity, where some of my best ideas often come to me.

Another passion of mine is playing basketball. The dynamics of the game, the team spirit, and the strategy involved provide an exhilarating balance to my work life. I've found that it not only helps me unwind but also stokes my competitive spirit and teamwork skills, which are essential in my professional role.

Traveling is another avenue that fuels my creativity and broadens my perspective. Experiencing different cultures, meeting new people, and exploring unique landscapes can be incredibly inspiring and often provides me with fresh ideas and insights.

Spending quality time with my family is invaluable to me. These precious moments serve as a gentle reminder of what truly matters, keeping me grounded amidst the hustle and bustle of professional life.

Lastly, I thoroughly enjoy playing VR games in my spare time. As someone deeply invested in the XR technology space, this hobby is not only entertaining but also helps me stay abreast of the latest advancements and trends in the industry. It allows me to be a consumer of the technology we create and refine, providing firsthand insights into user experience and potential areas of innovation.

These diverse hobbies not only help me recharge but also feed into my creative process, aiding me in maintaining a fresh and innovative approach to my work at CXR.Agency.

What do you like most about your industry?

One of the aspects I relish the most about working in the technology industry is the sheer dynamism and constant evolution it offers. As someone who identifies as a 'tech geek', there's something incredibly fulfilling about being in an industry that not only aligns with my interests but also provides endless opportunities for learning and innovation.

Each day brings new advancements, new problems to solve, and new ideas to explore. I find immense satisfaction in staying at the forefront of technology and witnessing how it evolves over time. It's a continual learning process – one that challenges me, excites me, and keeps me engaged in my work every single day.

But perhaps what I love most is the chance to leverage the best and latest technology to create solutions that transform brands and improve people's lives. I'm passionate about making emerging technology accessible and beneficial for our clients, and it's gratifying to see our efforts come to fruition in the form of groundbreaking digital experiences.

In essence, the technology industry allows me to combine my love for tech, my curiosity to learn, and my desire to make a meaningful impact. That's a combination I wouldn't trade for anything else.

When you first started, how did you get clients?

When first launching CXR.Agency, acquiring clients largely came down to a combination of networking and word-of-mouth referrals. I believe the relationships you build in any industry can become your strongest assets, and this proved especially true in the early stages of our agency.

I made it a point to attend industry events, engage with thought leaders, participate in forums, and contribute meaningfully to discussions about emerging technology and digital transformation. This helped me not only broaden my professional network but also position myself and CXR.Agency as active players in the field.

As we started to work with our first clients, we focused intently on delivering high-quality, innovative solutions that truly met their needs. The successful execution of these initial projects resulted in satisfied clients who then recommended us to their networks. This word-of-mouth promotion became a significant driver for new business, reinforcing our reputation for effective solutions and innovative technology application.

While today we use a more multifaceted approach to acquire clients, these initial strategies of networking and fostering positive client experiences for word-of-mouth referrals were instrumental in getting us off the ground and continue to be key components of our client acquisition strategy.

Who do you see having a competitive edge in the future?

In the rapidly evolving landscape of technology, I believe the competitive edge of the future will be held by individuals and organizations that commit to continuous learning and adaptation.

On an individual level, those who consistently update their skills and stay abreast of technological advancements will hold a significant advantage. Embracing tools like AI to enhance workflows, improve productivity, and drive innovation will be crucial. The workforce of the future will be characterized by a blend of technical expertise and adaptability, with an emphasis on skills that machines cannot replicate.

Organizations, on the other hand, that invest heavily in their employees' education and retention will have a competitive edge. The reason is two-fold: first, continuous learning and skill development will ensure the workforce remains relevant and able to leverage emerging technologies effectively. Second, a focus on employee retention can help build a resilient and experienced team that contributes to the organization's intellectual capital, driving long-term growth and innovation.

Moreover, companies that foster an inclusive and diverse work culture will also hold a competitive advantage. Diverse teams bring a variety of perspectives and ideas, leading to innovative solutions and better decision making.

On a larger scale, countries that prioritize digital literacy, invest in technological infrastructure, and promote innovation-friendly policies will likely lead the global stage. They will attract talent, businesses, and investments, creating a robust digital economy.

In conclusion, the future belongs to those who are prepared to learn, adapt, and innovate continuously in the face of technological change.
